Motivational Monday {Linky}

Happy Monday everyone!

I am delighted to be part of Motivational Mondays - along with The Learning Tree and Smiling in Second Grade!  You can also be a part of Motivational Monday!  You can find out how at the bottom of this post.

 I would like to share with you all a video that inspires me and gives me goose bumps every time I watch it.

There are many times that we receive students with a label, and because that student has a label many things are assumed - from behavior, to academics, to home life.  The video below is one my favorite viral videos of all time.  It is a reminder to me that children {or anyone for that matter} might come to me with labels, or they might be hard to figure out - but it takes an open mind and an open heart to unlock the full potential in our students and see who they truly are.

Yes, I know Susan Boyle is far from a child - but the whole audience {judges included} wrote her off before she even opened her mouth to sing due to her appearance and quirky personality.  I feel this happens to our students more often than it should.  Her audition for Britain's Got Talent has taught me that I need to give my students chances instead of assume what they are capable of.
{Side note - Simon Cowell's expression at the 3:57 mark is priceless!}

Enjoy!

    1. Heather,

      I hopped over to your blog and after checking out your super cute pumpkin patches, I found your Hoover post. I have several Hoover's in my room right now. Your post was incredibly well written and very sincere. Thank you for writing it.

    4. Blogger must be acting weird again...for some reason you are not showing up in my follower box and I am not showing up on your list of blogs on your profile page. I know I have had to follow several blogs 2 and 3 times lately before it finally worked. =)

      If you ever need help with another give away, I would love to help out. =)

    5. I double checked to make sure it worked and I am following you..maybe it's just being weird tonight? I also checked to see if you were on my blog list and you're not there..I'm not sure how to try again because my name is where your "follow me" button normally would be. I'll check it again tomorrow. :) (I'll show up as Danielle, not classroom cupcakes)

      And thanks for offering help with giveaways! I'll definitely take you up on that. ;)

  2. I have heard many stories about Susan Boyle but never watched the episode. Thank you so much for sharing. It literally brought tears to my eyes. There is so much truth in your words. This happens too often in life. I might have to repost that some day because we need to be consistently reminded that writing people off is NOT ok. Thanks again. Truly motivational.

    Antoinette- We're your newest followers. :)

    1. I absolutely love how the entire crowd goes into complete the shock the moment she sings the first note.

      My giveaway ends on Saturday - I would love it if you spread the love!
